Details
Shahawar Matin Siraj was a bookstore clerk who struck up a friendship with a New York Police Department undercover informant. The two discussed 9/11 and extremism, and the informant said he had connections to “The Brotherhood.” Siraj and the informant, as well as co-defendant James Elshafay, concocted a plot to attack New York’s Herald Square subway station. They did reconnaissance missions and discussed how to acquire and deploy bombs.
